Yum Yum

Food is basic needs of our life and let's just say I'm a needy one on this category. I love good food! In this blog, I'd post pic of foods I dine in restaurants and tell what I think about them. I might also cook/bake sometime =)

My Mom's cooking

1. Mie titeh

It's Javanese style noodle. It's noodle with broth, topped with shrimp, pork and mushroom, spinach and lots of garlic. Since I love garlic, I like this dish so much :D.

2.  Bakso garing-garing (literally translated to crunchy meatballs)

It's named that because the meatballs contain water chestnut other than pork meat. And water chestnut gives you that crunchy texture when u bite into it.

3. Udang goreng asem

It's small shrimps marinated with "asem" (it's a sort of Indonesian seasoning that taste kind of sour) and then deep fried. Since it's small shrimps, you can eat them with the shells and even the head if you want.

Kana's Delight Durian Pudding

This is made by my aunt. Basically it's a plain pudding on the bottom and then topped with lots of durian and a layer of shredded chocolate. The durian is really nice and since the pudding is plain without any flavor, it's not too overwhelming for me :) Great taste, great pudding.

She also made pudding with coconut and cempedak taste before. But, I love the durian the most. Cempedak is also nice, but coconut is only so-so.
She usually sells them in other restaurants like Pondok Shantung, Gajah Mada.

sweets from Singapore

1. Ji Xiang Ang Ku Kueh (Everton Park)

I like this ang ku kueh from Ji Xiang at Everton Park, Singapore. The skin is really thin and not gamey at all. Even after a day, the skin still so soft and nice. They have many varieties of taste, for example: mung bean, ground nuts, yam. Sometime they even have seasonal taste like: cempedak or durian.

I love their yam. My other families love their durian. But, durian is seasonal, so it's hard to get them.

This pics are of the ground nuts (red) and yam (purple)

2. Swiss Rolls @Kandahar Street

They sell Swiss rolls with different taste. I bought the durian and coffee. They also sell kaya, vanilla, etc. You can really taste the durian and coffee in them. The roll itself is soft and moist. :D

3. Dragon's beard & Coconut cake @Wisma Atria, Orchard

I've been looking for this dragon's beard for a long time. Usually, uncles sells them around Chinatown, but now I can't seem to find them there. When I was walking in Wisma Atria food court, I found them in one of the stall :D

Dragon's beard are made out of sugar. They are pulled, twisted and turned into white strings just like noodle. And inside of the white strings are ground nuts with sugar. It's like some sort of sugar candy :)

Coconut cake is made out of steamed shredded coconut and brown sugar. In Indonesia, we usually called them kue Putu. But in Singapore, they made it into flower shape. I like the Indonesian version better. This one is more dry and doesn't have the fragrance like the Indonesian one. Or I just bought it at wrong place? :P

4. At the airport, I craved for something sweet. So, I bought chocolate doughnut @ Starbucks. It taste quiet nice. It's full of chocolate and on the outside it's glazed with sugar. Yummy

Yoshinoya @ Grand Indonesia, Jakarta

Yay, I love Yoshinoya. I'm happy that they got into Jakarta. Like usual, I ordered the original rice bowl package. That includes 3 types of fried side dishes, 1 bowl of soup and 1 green tea.

It's too bad that the taste is more bland than the one I had in USA, I had expected to have even better taste because Indonesian usually really brave at giving seasonings. Nevertheless, I still love it :)

The side dishes are nice, tho. It consist of 1 fried shrimp, 1 fried siomay and 1 fried meat roll. I don't think I ever had them in other countries' Yoshinoya... I'm not sure if they don't have it or I just never order them. The crispiness is nice and the taste is great. I like the fried siomay the most.

dinner @ airport , bangkok, thailand

Since I need to be at the airport for check in before dinner time, I had dinner at the airport. I forgot the name of the restaurant, but it's inside after u check-in and stuff and it's near the tax refund place.

The food is surprisingly really good!

I had prawn cake for appetizer, It's really crispy and the filling is juicy.

Then, I ordered tom yam soup filled with shrimp dumpling and mushrooms. I really really like this. The spiciness is real good and the dumpling is full with shrimp :) Love it.

Buono mochi ice cream @ Bangkok, Thailand

At one of the mall, I tried the mochi ice cream in a stall named Buono. It's really nice.

The skin is thin and soft while the filling is not too creamy. The color is really nice too :D

breakfast & dessert @Le Notre, Bangkok, Thailand

On my last day in Bangkok, Thailand, I had breakfast on the lobby of my hotel. They have a cafe there named Le Notre, I think they have other branches in malls. I heard they have a really nice dessert there.

I have ham sandwich with french fries for my main. The sandwich is filled nicely with lots of ham and topped with melty cheese, so I like it. The french fries is nothing special though.

For dessert, I chose mille-fueille. The cream is nice, not too creamy, kind of light and not too sweet. But the crispiness could be better.

And, I also bought coffee eclair for my mom. I tried some, and it's too sweet for me.

another sweet snack @bangkok, thai

This is another type of cotton candy. They also sell this kind in Jakarta, Indonesia but usually you eat it with crispy wafer. It's different for this one I bought @ Bangkok, Thailand. They eat it with soft dough made out of flour and infused with pandan flavor, so it's really fragrant.

This is how I eat them:

Put the skin on your palm.

Then, put the cotton candy on top of it.

Roll the skin.

Munch, munch, munch. :D

I like it!!! It's not crispy like the one sold in Jakarta, but the pandan aroma really make this one a winner for me :) I'm not sure what it's called in Thailand, because I spotted the stall outside a mall. It's only temporary stall because they're having a little festival there. If you know the name, please let me know :D

cotton candy from Bangkok, Thailand

The cotton candy i bought at one of the supermarket in Bangkok, Thailand. Different colors different flavors. Green is melon, Blue is blueberry, white is vanilla, pink is the regular cotton candy, yellow is mango and purple is grape. It's fluffy and sweet of course :) Nice for souvenir or for myself :P

McDonald @ Bangkok, Thailand

This is the interiod of McDonald at one of the mall at Bangkok, Thailand. They also sell lots of cakes :)

I ordered Samurai burger which is a burger with pork meat. The pork meat is really nice and juicy, also tender. It's the best McD burger so far :D If you like pork, and u like burger, try this one when ur in Bangkok. You won't regret it.

This is their Thai style chilli sauce. Sweet and spicy

They also have this chicken ham pie but I didn't have a chance to try it. But it looks so good....*slurp*
