Yum Yum

Food is basic needs of our life and let's just say I'm a needy one on this category. I love good food! In this blog, I'd post pic of foods I dine in restaurants and tell what I think about them. I might also cook/bake sometime =)

Sanur @ Jl. Juanda

For the starter, I ordered shark fin soup with crab meat. I always add black vinegar to this soup coz I think it taste better that way :) The soup has a lot of crab meat, but not the shark fin :( But taste-wise is good.

Then, I ordered bbq sliced beef. The beef is a little crunchy but it's juicy also. The taste is kind of sweet but I still think it's a good dish.

This is fish maw with mushroom n bamboo shoots. I like this dish so much. All of the ingredients in the dish is really nice. The fish maw especially, it's really thick yet so tender and juicy. Yummmm...

Last is crab puyunghai. It's a mixed of veggies, crab meat, eggs and flour, then molded and fried and showered with a lot of sauce. This is the best crab puyunghai ever. Most restaurant put more veggies than crab meat, but on this puyunghai you can taste the crab meat more than the veggies. Really worth it :)

sakura @ canteen, plaza indonesia

I went to hang out at Canteen after dinner. I ordered "sakura" drink , it's a mix of sake and strawberry liquor basically. It taste nice, not too sweet, not too strong either. Although I wouldn't mind if they make it strong haha... But most of all, I like the way they served it :) It's so cute...!

pasta de waraku, grand indonesia

I went to pasta de waraku at grand indonesia for dinner. I ordered the sukiyaki pasta. It taste like Japanese sukiyaki (bonito broth and soy sauce based soup), but with pasta instead of udon. I quite like this dish, because it's unusual to see this kind of menu in another restaurant.

The dish consist of pasta, tofu, cabbage, sliced beef and egg. It's supposed to be sunny side up egg, but they were out of the raw egg, so they exchange it with the boiled egg and sliced them.

Brussel Spring @Central Park, Jakarta

This is the waffle. The texture is kind of weird, it's like a sweet bread molded into a waffle.
But it doesn't have a strong milk smell like the usual waffle, so some people that doesn't like milk might prefer this waffle.

The oxtail soup is quite savoury. The chips is huge and thick so when you soak it into the soup, it's still crunchy while has the soup flavor in it :) The oxtail itself is tender, but could have more meatttt!

The potato tester has 3 types of potato forms. I like the hash brown, the cylinder type one. While my mom preferred the circle one.

So-Phia Bandung

My aunt bought me this pia from Bandung. They have 5 varieties of flavor: pineapple, durian, mung bean, chocolate and cheese. I like durian, mung bean and pineapple. The chocolate is okay. But the cheese is weird because it's only salty, not sweet.

The crispiness of the skin is really nice and the filling is not full so you won't get the feeling of too much when eating this pia :)

Too bad they can't delivered to Jakarta because the skin will break, but they do deliver within Bandung for a fee of 20k I think.

Bali trip (Jul 16-18, 2011)

This is the first time I went to Rock Bar. That picture was the main bar of Rock Bar. The view for sunset is amazing here :)

For breakfast the next day I went to Tekor and ordered poached egg with bacon. The egg is poached nicely, has lots of juice when I cut it. But in the process, I soaked my bread so it became too soggy for me to eat haha

Then I went to chill out at Kudeta, another sunset to watch :) I tried the lychee rose martini. It's really nice and fragrance :) The color is pretty too hehe

For dinner I went to Rumours, an Italian restaurant. I ordered prosciutto and melon slices as my appetizer. The melon could be chilled more to add freshness into the dishes. For main course, I ordered steak with mashed potato. The steak is tender and juicy. Sorry about the pic so dark, because the restaurant lighting is kind of dark ... But this restaurant is really crowded, I think because they serve decent international meal and the price is really cheap.

On my way to airport, I stopped by at ayam betutu restaurant. I ordered nasi campur komplit. It consists of rice, satay, shredded chicken, kangkung, pepes and egg. Ehmmmm, i personally doesn't like the taste of this dish. But I see the restaurant is quite crowded and I know this restaurant is quite famous also, so I dunno if it's just my taste or what :)

Queens @Jl. Roa Malaka, Jakarta

I got a recommendation from my colleague to this Queens restaurant. It serves Chinese restaurant and it's a great one!

She recommend "shark fin soup".  I like it but I don't think it's anything special. But it's kind of cheap. For a big bowl you can eat it for 3-4 people and it's a lot of crab meat in it, although the shark fin is not that many.

What I like the most from this restaurant is this "deep fried crab pincer". Most restaurants serves small crab pincer then covered with shrimp paste and then deep fried. This one is a huge crab pincer and deep fried. So you can really feel the texture of the crab. Really nice :) Btw, ask for the 6 pincers a portion, otherwise you get the small pincers one.

We tried "shanghai satay". Basically smoked pork meat put inside small mantou. The taste is sweet and juicy :)

This noodle is to die for! It's kind of like lo mie, but the ingredients consist of bird eggs, mushroom and lots of crab meat. Really nice !!!

My dad love this one, it's a pork ribs cooked with Chinese herbs and rice wine. It's really tender but for me it has a slightly taste of Redoxon hahaha I dunno why...

This is shrimp with ham. They mold 4 shrimps into one and deep fried them together into 1 huge shrimp. Then cut and put in the middle of each cut a slice of ham. It's nothing special but it's good :)

There are more to try in this restaurant :D

Bandung road trip (Maja house and Prima Rasa)

Me and my friends went to Bandung last weekend and try "Maja House" at Lembang area. It's a really cool place, you can see Bandung city from the outdoor lounge while having your meal.

I ordered fried mushrooms for my appetizer. It's really juicy and crunchy, but kind of oily.

Then I ordered steak and egg. For a +/- 60k steak, this is quiet nice. The flavor is kind of salty but the meat is tender and juicy. The egg is half cooked, which I like very much :) The french fries is not as crunchy as I want them to be.

I went home to Jakarta the next day with a "durian molen" from Prima Rasa. I never tried durian molen before. But, it turned out I like them haha. Molen usually consists of banana, this one is just pure durian made into sort of paste and stuffed into a nice pastry. I like the texture of the pastry so much.

Social Hour Set @SoHo, Grand Indonesia, Jakarta

There's a promo using HSBC between 3pm-8pm we can order social hour set buy 1 get 1. I ordered 2 different set, the first one is the "high tea". It consists of ham sandwich, salmon sandwich, cookies, chocolate tart, eclair, potato chips, banana cake, and bread with butter & jam. I especially like the eclair and the chocolate tart.

We ordered the 3 (or was it 4) cheese pizza and topped with mushrooms. It's really nice. The pizza is thin and the flavoring is just right. The cheese still melted when served, so it kinda melt in our mouth also :) Love it.

Nasi campur Yung-Yung @Krendang

I like Yung-Yung's nasi campur, literally translates to mix rice.

It consists of rice, half egg (already cooked with soy sauce), bbq pork, roast pork, pork chinese sausage. The sauce they use is made from pork stock and then thickened so it's kind of gooey. I prefer mine without the sauce, but my brother like the sauce.

They're located at Jalan Krendang , Jembatan Lima area.

Kitchenette @Plaza Indonesia, Jakarta

I really don't recommend Kitchenette's fried calamari to any of you, unless you like huge chunks of fishy calamari... This is the first time that I found a decent restaurant serving a bad fried calamari. Usually the problem were the texture too chewy, but this is just badddd, very fishy smell, and the huge chunks just annoyed me more.

Their dory fish topped with tomato based sauce is not bad, but it's nothing special.

I think Kitchenette is only nice for their homemade lemonade (ask for more lemon to add more kick into it) and for their location, which is in the middle of intersection so people can do a little of "sight-seeing", if you know what I mean :P

egg mcmuffin @mcdonald jakarta

I love McD breakfast, I always eat them every now and then when I was still in Ohio, USA. I especially like their cappuccino there, it's really fragrance. But when I tried it here in Jakarta, it's not the same :(.

The egg mcmuffin is quiet nice, although the ham could have been better. But the egg is thick and soft.

I also tried the sausage mcmuffin couple days later, I like the egg mcmuffin better.

Hopeng, Gajah Mada area

My family's favorite dish is this "cah juhi"... means stir fried squid. The squid is really tender, don't have to put any force into it at all and it doesn't have fishy smells. It's stir fried with bamboo shoots and mushroom. Really nice :) Even my brother who doesn't like this kinda squid, says it's really good :D

Second favorite is this fried fish then stir fried with seasoning. Even though it was fried first, the fish still so moist and not oily.

Singapore trip

1. First day, I went directly to Ion mall to eat "mee pok tar" at the food court downstairs :D I really love their noodle here, the black vinegar really kicks and the taste just right. The noodle itself is a little chewy, just my favorite texture :).

2. Then I went to Food Republic at Wisma Atria, while walking my mom got attracted to the fragrance of the hokkien mee stall. So, we decided to try one :) The portion is huge enough for me and my mom. The noodle and the flavoring also nice. The chili could be more spicy tho...

3. This is the noodle from a small plaza in Bencoolen area. They're famous for their dumplings. I tried the soup one and it's really really good! I ordered another one of them after I'm done with the first one haha. But the noodle and the pork meat is not that good. I want to try the fried dumpling also, but I'm too full already, so I better go back there on my next trip :)

4. This is fried kway teow from Raffles Plaza food court. Super nice, the taste is really too complicated to say but it summarized into: one good dish! hahaha I would love more meat thooooo

5. Ahhhhh, it's been so long since I drink Fanta Grape. I think the last time Indo have them is around my junior high .. which is... about a decade ago :( This one I bought in one of Japanese store in little mall, I forgot which mall, sorry. The taste is just like what I remember :) I feel kinda... old now hahahaha

6. Din Tai Fung at 313 Somerset I believe. I walked thru so many malls, I forgot which is which already :O. Din Tai Fung at SG have pork :) so it's nicer than the one at Indo obviously :P The top one is pork meat and the second one is shrimp. Both are nice, nice crispiness outside, nice and juicy inside... what else u want? :P

7. I stayed at Newton Circus area, so we went there at night to stop at that famous food court and try their famous oyster fried with eggs. The oysters are abundant... But I still like the one at Tio Ciu restaurant at Mangga Besar area better.

8. At the airport, I bought Subway :) With bacon, ham, melted cheese, onions, chipotle sauce and a little bit of mayo sauce. So niceeeeeee....

9. I bought home frozen package of dumplings. It's really small in size compared to dumplings sold here. The only place that I know selling them in Sg is Fairprice+. The taste for a frozen meal is quite nice :) I think it's from Korea or Japan.

A trip full of heavenly dish indeed :D

Gemblong

This is sweet snack named "gemblong". The inside is glutinous rice mixed with coconut then covered in crispy brown sugar...

This one I bought from stall in Pekojan area in Jakarta. It's the nicest gemblong ever.
The inside is really fluffy and when you eat it while it's still hot the outside is crispy while the inside is still moist.
Really nice!
