Yum Yum

Food is basic needs of our life and let's just say I'm a needy one on this category. I love good food! In this blog, I'd post pic of foods I dine in restaurants and tell what I think about them. I might also cook/bake sometime =)

-Dunia Baru- Chinese restaurant @Bogor

After all that dessert, I went to this Chinese restaurant named -Dunia Baru- at Jalan Siliwangi, Bogor. We ordered "haisom kaki babi / sea cucumber with pork leg", "usus babi goreng / deep fried pork intestines" and "lapis udang ham / shrimp covered in ham".

The sea cucumber with pork leg is average in my opinion. Well, for the price, the ingredients are abundance though. The sea cucumber is kind of crunchy in texture but not hard to chew. The taste is kind of sweet from the sauce.

The deep fried pork intestines is really good! The intestines are deep fried to perfection so that it's really crunchy but not hard to bite. It can be a snack too if you prefer it that way =)

The shrimp covered in ham is alright. I can't really taste the shrimp because it's already mashed and then made into thin layered. The texture is crunchy but soft in the inside.

sagurangi and col enak dessert @ Bogor

I went to Bogor again last Friday. I stopped by that "ronde" stall at Jalan Suryakencana again and bought this "sagurangi" dessert. It's made out of yam chunks, palm sugar, sago, and coconut milk.

The yam chunks is not too chewy but not too soft either, so it's really good in texture. The sweetness from palm sugar is not too much which is good =). The sago is kind of lumpy, which is supposed to be in this dessert. The coconut milk is fragrance and rich in flavor. So, mix them together and you get a great dessert named "sagurangi".

I even bought one home and eat it the next day, it's still so good! You just got to put the coconut milk in a bowl and don't cover it with anything. It will stay good for a day =)

Not too far from this ronde stall (turn left at Jalan Roda), there's a small stall selling "col enak" dessert. This dessert made out of fermented cassava and banana topped with young coconut meat and palm sugar then poured with coconut milk.

The banana and fermented cassava has already been grilled so it's really fragrant. The sweetness even though looks like too sweet with all that palm sugar, it's not. It's just right! The young coconut meat and fermented cassava is soft in texture while the banana is kind of chewy to balance it. Love it!

-Medan Baru- Padang restaurant @Krekot area, Jakarta

I went to "Medan Baru" Padang restaurant couple days ago. It's located in Krekot area.

This is the second time I've been to this restaurant. The first time I want to try something special in this restaurant, but they didn't have it anymore that day. So, I went again and finally I got to try the "marijuana chili sauce". Yep, it's said that the chili sauce contains marijuana in it. The taste is kind of sour like young mango, nothing spicy about it at all, doesn't taste weird or anything, and no side effect after that, too. Awww... Well, at least I tried =P

They have 4 varieties of chicken (at least that I know of!), they got rendang, gulai, deep-fried and grilled.

OK, this is weird. The first time I came to this restaurant all the chicken is really good. But, today, the grilled one is cold like it came out of the refrigerator and the gulai kind of bland in taste.

The restaurant was having a blackout that day. Every couple mins the electricity went down so there's no light for some time and we have to stop eating because it's pitch black inside haha.

Really dissapointed!

If you decide to try them, they are famous for their "fish head" dish other than the chicken and that "sambel ganja/marijuana chili sauce".

-Nata- "roll cake"

My mom bought 2 roll cakes from Nata. First one is chocolate roll cake and the second one is mocha roll cake. Personally, I like the mocha roll cake better.

The cake is soft and moist. The sweetness is just right for me =) The flavor is rich enough to taste the mocha or the chocolate. It's good to satisfy your sweet tooth craving if you're around the stall.

Nata shop usually is located in the FoodHall supermarket area in malls.

trying "chicken pi-than congee" at Imperial Jade Sichuan, Plaza Indonesia mall, Jakarta

I went to Imperial Jade Sichuan again to try out their congee =). So, I ordered the "chicken pi-than congee", it came with little cubes of chicken breast meat, pi-than or you might call it a century egg tidbits, and crispy wonton skin. I ordered "jellyfish" for my side dish, too.

The congee is nothing special by itself. But, since I loved their "jellyfish", eating them with the congee is heaven on earth hehe =)

dimsum at -Imperial Jade Sichuan- @Plaza Indonesia mall, Jakarta

I went to -Imperial Jade Sichuan- again yesterday to try on their dim sum. I ordered 8 dim sum varieties (I actually want some more but my stomach probably won't tolerate it haha)

The first one to came is this "fried seafood roll / lumpia seafood goreng". This one tasted kinda weird for me, because the ingredients I think includes fruit other than seafood. So, it's sweet and sour for the filling. But, still tolerable to eat I guess.

Then, the "egg tart". I always ordered one of this out of dim sum menu because this is my favorite dim sum sweets =). This one is heavenly! The skin is soft and crunchy but doesn't crumble easily. The filling is really soft and taste just right! Love itttt!

This might be the best "shrimp dumpling / hakau" in Jakarta. The shrimp is huge and crunchy in texture, the skin is thin so it's easy to chew off.

The "fried turnip cake" is alright. It's fragrant but doesn't really have the crunchiness I wanted out of a turnip cake =). But, it's still good to try. They have the steamed version to this turnip cake if you prefer less oily =)

"Fried shrimp dumpling"! Yummie! Hehe, they added some greens that add fragrance into this dumpling, and like the hakau, the shrimp they use is huge and crunchy. So it's really juicy in the inside but crunchy on the outside. Perfect =). It's too bad the mayonnaise sauce is not that good.

This one is "fried shrimp in tofu skin". I noticed that when you ordered the fried dimsum here, you have to prepare to roll them on tissue first, because it's really oily. This one has that huge shrimp filling and fragrant greens inside the tofu skin. I prefer the dumpling version, though =)

This "siew mai" is great! This one used chicken meat though, not pork (I bet if they make the pork version, it's even greater in taste hahaha). It's crunchy in texture and really juicy. Really good!

My mom ordered this one because in the picture she saw that they served it like swan figure. When it came out like the usual "fried taro dumpling", she's kind of dissapointed hahaha. She said, "apparently, the swan's head already cut off before serving" hahaha. But this "fried taro dumpling" is really good =). The outside is real crispy and the taro is thin so there's lots of room for the filling =).

Overall, I'm really satisfied with the dim sum and this probably is one of my favorite dim sum place from now on.

"putu bambu" @Pluit area, Jakarta

I was looking for a late night snack couple days ago, but because of Lebaran holiday, most of them still closed. But, when I passed the Pluit area, I noticed the stall that sells "putu bambu" is open =). So, I decided to buy some.

Putu bambu is made from rice flour and it's filled with palm sugar then steamed. It's served with shredded coconut. This stall sells a great "putu bambu", it's really fragrance, the sweetness is just right and not petty on the filling and topping =P

Other than "putu bambu", this stall also sell great "lopis (green and black versions available), putu mayang and klepon". I would review them some other time =)

"oxtail soup/sup buntut and dessert" Bogor Cafe @Pacific Place Mall, Jakarta

I went to Pacific Place mall couple days ago to eat this "Soup Buntut or Oxtail Soup" at Bogor Cafe (branch from Borobudur Hotel. This mall is actually quite far from my place compared to the hotel itself. But, the price for this dish is cheaper at this mall hehe. Also in this mall you got a choice of small, medium or legendary size, while in the hotel you only got 1 choice. The taste is the same, though =)

This "oxtail soup" from Bogor Cafe is the best I had so far. The soup is really refreshing and the meat is really soft. The dish include rice and chips we called "emping" (it's made from belinjo). I usually dip the chips into the soup just before I bite it, so I still have a lil bit of crunch from it and the refreshing taste from the soup.

If you like "oxtail soup" and haven't try this one, you have to!

For the dessert, I try this "grilled banana with coconut ice cream". The banana is grilled then drizzled with liquid palm sugar. The banana's texture is not too soft, it still has a bit of crunchiness into it which I think is good, and it's not too sweet so the palm sugar complement it real good! The best part of this dessert for me is the ice cream though. The coconut ice cream is not soft in texture, it's crunchy but rich in coconut taste. Love it!

"Soto Mie" Gg. Telor, Jakarta

I got 2 favorite stalls for "soto mie". Both of them is close to my home =) So, when I got nothing to eat at home I usually bought this food hehe. This one is named soto mie Gg. Telor. It's served with sliced carrots, beef, noodle and rice vermicelli, also slices of risol (fried dough with rice vermicelli in it).

Pour the soup and add the chili into it, voila! You got a great "soto mie" to fill your lonely stomach =D. The taste is really good with the salty and spicy and the fragrance of the meat soup.

If you prefer your "soto mie" doesn't really has the beefy smells into it, you would prefer this one than the other one I like. But that other one served more ingredients than this one, so it's a matter of preference.

-Pink Moon- cupcake @Columbus, Ohio

I got this picture from my sister who lives @Columbus, Ohio, USA.

When I was still in college at Columbus, Ohio, I loved to eat this cupcake from the -Pink Moon- cupcake shop. I even got my sister to bring me 2 cupcakes from this shop the last time she came back to Jakarta hahaha... And, it's still in great taste and texture when I ate it.

The cupcake, unlike Indonesians cupcake I ate so far, is soft and rich in taste. I just fell in love with the cupcakes the first time I ate it. The one I like the best is the "buckeye cupcake", basically it's peanut butter cupcake. Love it! They sell a lot of varieties and some of them changed depending on the day you came.

I can't wait to have another bite of this cupcakeeessssss. Yummieeee!

"xxl crispy chicken" at -Shihlin- @Pluit Village mall, Jakarta

I went to Pluit Village today and bought this "xxl crispy chicken" snack from the -Shihlin- Taiwan street snacks stall. Like the name suggested, the chicken is really big in size, but it's thin. And, it's really crispy. You have the choice to make it spicy or not. I love mine spicy, of course. If you don't like spicy, don't worry, it's tasty already without the spicy powder. After they fried it, they put it on container and pour the seasoning on top of the fried chicken. Then they cut the chicken into small cube size, put it into a paper bag and gives you stick to eat it.

Breakfast Roti Prata with ham and egg @home

I bought pre-packaged whole-wheat roti prata couple days ago. It only needed to be heated on the pan until it's golden brown, and while waiting for it, I cooked the egg and ham on the side. It's ready to serve!

The prata is crispy on the outside but chewy on the inside. I just love that texture, crispy yet chewy. The ham gives the salty taste into this dish. And, the egg, well, I just gotta have the egg. No special reason hahaha.

Yummie!

"Pandan Chiffon Cake with Cheese" @Plaza Indonesia mall, Jakarta

My mom bought me this "pandan chiffon cake with cheese" from the stalls near Food Hall @Plaza Indonesia mall. The chiffon cake has great fragrance from the pandan and it's really soft and spongy like. The cheese added a bit of salty and creamy taste into the cake.

It's a good snack if you're looking for something to ease your sweet tooth craving =)

"New York Cheesecake" at Miki Ojisan No Mise shop @Plaza Indonesia Mall, Jakarta

I finished my haircut @Plaza Indonesia mall yesterday and still got to wait like half an hour for my mom to finish her facial. So, I walked around the mall and got tempted by -Miki Ojisan No Mise- cheesecake. It's located near the children area which called Miniapolis, I think. It's beside the Famous Amous stall.

I ordered the "New York Cheesecake" because I love the bottom portion of it that contains graham crackers. The cheesecake texture is creamy and soft. The taste is not too sweet for my tastebud so I love it. And the graham crackers adds crunchy texture and fragrance into the cheesecake. It's just perfect half an hour break for me hahaha...

-Soup- Restaurant @Plaza Indonesia Mall, Jakarta

Yesterday, I went to Plaza Indonesia to get a haircut =) After that, me and my mom decide to go to the Soup restaurant located near Kuppa restaurant. The Soup restaurant is famous for its Chinese herbal soup and deer meat dishes.

We ordered "salt and pepper soft shell crab". They used small soft shell crabs, sliced them and deep fried them. So, it's really crunchy, but they are lack of meat. So, it's alright but not that great in my opinion. If you like your soft shell crab really crunchy, you should go for it =)

No, this is not deer. =P We ordered the "black pepper beef". The beef is really soft, but it's expected because they cut it into small and thin cut. The taste is salty enough and also spicy from the black pepper, sliced chili and ginger.

-Imperial Jade Sichuan- again =p @Plaza Indonesia mall, Jakarta

Yep, I went to this restaurant twice in a row. Hahaha, this time I went with my father and mother, and chose the live seafood menu to get 50% on them using Citi card.

First, we order the "drunken shrimp". It brought out to us raw, so we can see it still alive. Then, they pour the shrimps with some cooking wine and they shake the container real hard and put it on small stove (they also add in sliced garlic, leek and chili) in front of us. In a large spoon, he pour more wine and lit it with fire, then he dip the spoon into the container, so there's fire inside the stove too (see pic 2).

The shrimp is really fragrance from the aroma of the wine. I ate it with the sliced garlic which add spicy and more aroma into it. Delicious!

Then the "crab with oyster sauce" came out. We ordered the male one because my mom like the puffy and soft meat on the male crab. The female crab tend to be fuller and more chewy. It's a matter of preference. If you like the soft meat of the male crab, you will love this dish. The meat is so soft, when you bite into it, it kind of like melt in your mouth. It's finger-licking great!

This one is "steamed scallop with garlic". They put some clear noodle, sliced leek and crushed garlic on top of the scallop and steamed it. The sauce has the salty taste from soy sauce and fragrance from the garlic. The texture is soft and juicy. I loved it!

Then, the "clam with tauco sauce". They also put some clear noodle and sliced leek into it. But this one used tauco sauce instead of garlic. The tauco sauce gave it salty and fragrance, the texture is also juicy. Yummm!

Dessert time! I ordered "glutinous rice balls black sesame filling with ginger soup". The ginger soup has a distinct sweet taste and aroma I just can't tell what it's from. The skin of glutinous rice balls is really soft and the black sesame filling is just great!

My mom ordered "durian pudding". The pudding texture is soft but not too soft. The durian flavor is really rich! It's like eating the durian itself. If you love durian, you just gotta try this one =)

-Imperial Jade Sichuan- @Plaza Indonesia mall, Jakarta

I ordered "jellyfish" as the appetizer. When I saw it the first time, my thought is "looks bland". When I tasted it, wow, I'm so wrong. The texture is really crunchy but not chewy, the taste is not spicy like the usual jellyfish dish you found at Chinese restaurant but salty and savory. I include this restaurant to my top Chinese restaurant just from this dish alone =). (This is my first visit for this restaurant)

Then the "shark-fin soup with crab meat". Lovely! The crab meat is cleaned really good so I don't get any pesky shell. The meat is also soft and in big chunks. The shark-fin is also soft but still crunchy, so it's really good. As you can see on the second picture of the soup, the shark fin is cut into good size so you can savor them. The taste is not too much so you can enjoy the taste of the shark-fin and crab meat fully.

I forgot to take picture before I cut it into half. So, this is only half portion of the original hehe. This is "abalone with sea cucumber". This one is just OK. The sea cucumber is too soft and the abalone is kind of chewy although it has great flavor into it.

And, last we ordered "kueh Malay". My mom been looking for this dim sum sweets in many Chinese restaurant recently. She said that back in her days, she always love this cake, she called it "Malay Gao". So, when she finally saw it in the menu of this restaurant, she actually got a really happy face like she found a treasure chest hahaha. So, we ordered one because I'm wondering what it's like. My mom said usually it has palm sugar taste into this cake, but this one doesn't have it. It's a really soft cake and not too sweet, so for me that's good =D. It has the aroma of egg in my opinion.

I will definitely be back to this restaurant to try the dim sum soon. They are having 50% discount with Citi card for live seafood dishes everyday or for dim sum only on Sat, Sun and public holidays.

-Hoka Hoka Bento- @Plaza Indonesia mall, Jakarta

Per request of Sarry, I went and have lunch at Hoka-Hoka Bento restaurant today at Plaza Indonesia/EX mall. I love their "chicken katsu". It's crispy and the meat is tender and the taste is just right. I never found any other restaurant that beat their "chicken katsu", even the upscale Japanese restaurant doesn't beat it.

The salad that comes with the dish is also has great mayo sauce on it. I don't really like salad, but I always managed to finish this one. Loveeee it!
