Yum Yum

Food is basic needs of our life and let's just say I'm a needy one on this category. I love good food! In this blog, I'd post pic of foods I dine in restaurants and tell what I think about them. I might also cook/bake sometime =)

Saboga @GI

I went to food louver @GI yesterday for lunch. I ordered Saboga's "Siomay Bakwan". It consist of each of all type of bakwan they have. Their food tasted really good. All of the siomay/bakwan taste great, the soup is really savoury too, and of course I like it spicy =)

Whenever I ate at food louver, I would go round and round, and mostly decided to eat at Saboga instead other restaurant. Hahaha... Crazy good =)

mozaru @zenbu , PI

I went to Zenbu PI for lunch and ordered their speciality mozaru. The portion is small, it's almost just right for me, but probably too little for most guys. The melted cheese is nice but the calorie of this dish makes me wanna cry haha.(Zenbu menu tells us how much calories +/- for each dish)

Their food is good in taste, but the portions are small mostly. So, it's good for sharing with lots of varieties probably.

Jack Rabbit @Cyber2 building, Kuningan

Me and my friends went to this restaurant & lounge couple weeks ago. It's called Jack Rabbit and located at Cyber2 building, across the Malaysian embassy. So if you go from Ambassador mall to Malay embassy, go u-turn and the first building to your left is cyber2 building. Jack rabbit is on the lobby level.

I ordered fried sandwich, I forgot what it's called. The filling is ham and melted cheese. The filling is nice but it's just too oily and the taste kind of bland for me.

My friend ordered grilled chicken and taste horrible he said. He doesn't recommend it.

My other friend ordered dessert, one plate consist of creme brule, raisin ice cream and something else (I forgot). The creme brule is nice (the top sugar is crunchy and not too burnt) and the raisin ice cream is the best =)

I think they're better on their dessert. I probably go back there and tried some other desserts next.

Pempek @ Ternate, Roxy VS @Muardi, Grogol

Pempek is made out of fish mainly. Some of them has egg filling, papaya filling, etc.

Above is the one from Jalan Ternate Roxy. The small pempek cost 3,000 each and the big one cost 12,000 each. I like the small ones more. But, they never fry it til the outside is crunchy =(

This one is from Muardi, Grogol. The small one here is 3,000 and I think the big one either 10,000 or 12,000. But the portion of the big one is much bigger than the Ternate one.

Overall for taste I think they are almost the same. I never ate pempek with the sauce, so I'm not sure about the sauce. I always eat mine dry like this and use chili and dried shrimp powder. The one at Grogol is so much generous on the dried shrimp.

So, for me, I vote for pempek @Muardi, Grogol =)

panini @marzano pizza , GI

This is the best panini I ever ate. But, it was a promotional thing, so last time I went to marzano, they don't have this menu anymore *cry*.

The bread is really good that makes it the perfect panini, imo.

Texas fried chicken @TA

I tried Texas fried chicken for the first time couple weeks ago for my lunch. My work mate said Texas fried chicken has the best fried chicken out of all fast food joint. So, I tried it.

The skin is really crunchy! But not as seasoned as KFC or McD. And, it's less oily than the other fast food joints.Below the crunchiness, the skin also really thin, unlike KFC and McD that have really yucky thick skin below the crunchiness.

The french fries is also nice. I'd still prefer McD's french fries though.

Siam Paragon mall supermarket & Central World supermarket @ Thailand

I went to supermarket at the Siam Paragon mall. And they sell this cotton candy in little balls form. Really cute. It has different colors like purple, blue, white, pink, green and yellow. I think it's grape, blueberry, vanilla, regular cotton candy, melon, and mango. I took a picture of the purple one. Cute!

I also bought this at the supermarket foodcourt. It's pork skin made into crackers. Really good! Really crunchy...

At the top floor of Central World mall, there's a Japanese supermarket and has foodcourt outside of the supermarket. They sell nice food and snacks!

This is a custard filled bun. At first, I thought how good could it be. Apparently, REALLY GOOD! I just keep eating it and finish it in one go. Really nice, one is chocolate feeling another is vanilla. They also have other flavors like mocha.

And then I bought this shrimp crackers at the supermarket. Really crunchy and you can taste the shrimp flavor really nice.

I went back to the foodcourt outside the supermarket and bought a dorayaki filled with custard, I expect more out of it. But, it's still good.

Manna @Siam Paragon mall, Thailand

Me and my mom went to Siam Paragon for lunch and decided to eat @Manna (it's my Thai friend recommendation). The restaurant is really cozy, especially the outdoor is really nice.

I ordered shrimp cake like the one I ate at Royal Dragon. It's good but not as good as the Royal Dragon's one. Something is just not as good as that one.

Then I ordered wonton appetizer. I didn't read what's in it, when I eat it, it turns out to be melted cheese. I quite like it, but my mom don't like it. Hahaha

The third appetizer would be pork meat balls in thai sauce. It's kind of salty and sour, it's so-so for me.But, my mom seems to like this one.

I chose tom yam for the soup. It's really nice! The spiciness and the sourness blends really great. And the ingredients are really fresh. Fish and shrimp also mushroom. The soup is savoury and rich in flavor. It also have kway teow in it.

I certainly will go back to this restaurant when I return to Bangkok =)

Royal Dragon @Thailand

I went to Thailand on Chinese new year with my mom. We went to this really huge restaurant called Royal Dragon. It has a small show on dinner time, like a servant sliding through the water (with the help of rope of course) with a fiery plate (yes, they are on fire) and then traditional dance show also. It has outdoor and indoor area, we sit on the outdoor area. Some of the servant here wears roller blade to get your food from kitchen to the table, probably because it's a really big restaurant, but it's quite entertaining to see them bring a lot of food on roller blade without tumbling down... hahaha

This is the shrimp cake for appetizer. Really good! I tried this on other restaurant in Thai, and this is the best so far. It's really crunchy, and the shrimp is really fresh and springy, in a good way.

Then I ordered the chicken in pandan leaves. It tasted different with the one I tried in Indo, the seasoning really suits my tastebud. The only problem I have with this dish, is not that hot anymore when served on my table. Other than that, thumbs up!

Durian Ice / Es Duren @Eat&Eat Foodcourt, Kelapa Gading mall

The durian ice here is really rich in taste. Because they served the durian ice with durian sauce. So, it's like double durian! They are really really nice, but the problem is I just ate 1 bowl of noodle before this, so I can't finish it all! I thought really hard before I decided to stop eating because I'm already at my limit. If I know there's a good durian ice like this, I would just eat this durian ice and skip my lunch altogether haha.

Toro Ribs @GI

I ordered half slab of ribs and it came with french fries & corn. It looks really delicious right? Well, it is delicious alright =) At least in Indonesia. I had better in USA, but this one is also good =)

I used my hand and just rip the ribs one by one easily. The meat is tender and moist and seasoned well. But, sometime I can still smell the porky, but not too much.

The french fries is not crunchy enough for me, the seasoning is good though. The corn is sweet but they only put a small toothpick on both side of the long cob, so it's kind of hard to make it balanced.

Leko @Gajah Mada

If I'm craving for meat and also spiciness, I went to Leko. It has a great "iga penyet-extra spicy". It's fried ribs and below the ribs, they have the extra spicy chili paste. If you don't like it too spicy, you can ask for just spicy, or least spicy as possible. This time, I ordered the "Iga & otot penyet - extra spicy", there's and addition of fried tendon next to the ribs. I love it.

But for me, the best Leko is still the one at PIK area. Some people preferred Tekko instead of Leko, but I always go to Leko because the chili paste is really spicy at Leko, but they lack of varieties in the menu.  If you prefer non-spicy and like sweet, try their grilled ribs instead, it's really good also and not spicy at all.

Tekko is only different in the taste of the chili paste and Tekko have more varieties in the menu. Their fried mushroom is nice, but don't try their fried squid, too hard to bite haha.

marutama ramen @EX

I went to marutama ramen and ordered gyoza as my appetizer. The bottom is crunchy and nice while the top is still moist. I like this a lot =) The sauce that came with it also really good.

Then I ordered the ramen with shrimp, pork and I added egg to it. The ramen soup is savoury, but the noodle is too soft for my preference. I wonder if I can ask them to make it more springy next time. =)

fried chicken @asean , pejagalan area

I usually go to this "asean" restaurant for fried chicken. It's located near Pejagalan area.

Below all that, if you can see on the bottom left corner is the chicken. It's already seasoned and fried. On top of it, is young egg (telor muda) and "cendil" (im not sure how to say it in english, but it's one of the inside of the chicken, closed to their heart). Also on top right corner, you can spot chicken liver. There should be fried chicken intestines, too, but I think it's covered in the goodness there.

They're all seasoned really well and you can  tell them if you want yours fried to the crunch or just half , it's up to your own preference.

Chinese spring roll (Chun Cien)

This is my favorite snack food that my mom makes. It's a family recipe from my father's side.

Chinese spring roll mainly filled with pork meat and bamboo shoot. The taste is really perfect to my tastebud and the crunchiness, especially if you eat it while it's still hot, it's like heaven on earth! I can usually finished 10 or more in one go haha

LOVEEEEE IT!

nastar / pineapple cookies

This nastar is simply the best. It's my father's friend that made it. You can see the pineapple is really full inside that cookies. The cookies itself has a really nice texture into it. Not too crunchy, but not too moist. The pineapple also not too sweet and still has a lil hint of sourness into it.

If you want to eat this, you have to order it though. =)

sugar apple / custard / srikaya @my house

At my house, we have a tree of sugar apple or we usually called it srikaya. The fruit is different from the usual one tho. It's usually has green skin, but ours have sort of pink/reddish skin. After you peeled the skin, the inside also has white and pinkish meat in it.

Although it's not big like the one sold in fruit market, but it's really watery. It has a distinguish fragrance, too. It's kind of flowery scent into it. I love it =)

This fruit is really good for skin because it's high on antioxidant and vit c. Also good for heart, hair, eyes and digestion. Great taste, great benefit! Love it!

elephant's egg or telor gajah @ny. lily

I know it sounds weird, since elephant doesn't lay eggs. Or are they? hahahahahhaa. Well, this is a cake, it's empty inside only the skin inside has brown sugar sticking onto it. If you want to try one of these, I suggest buying them at Ny. Lily. You can usually find their stalls at malls like around food hall @PI or @GI or some other place. Other than this place, usually the elephant eggs are not good.

The brown sugar not really that sweet and the skin is a little crunchy. You should try this if you are into sweet snacks.

mango

Just wanna share the pics with all of you =) I love mangoes. Especially the one kind of sour, but also has a lil sweetness, and watery! Really nice. Thinking about it makes me drool... Haha

Java noodle / mie jawa @lembang, bandung

I usually don't like Indonesian style fried noodle because it's usually really sweet. But, I love this "Java noodle (or mie jawa)" at my friend's cafe in Bandung. The cafe doesn't have name on it but it has "Mie Jawa" writings and "NN cookies" plank outside. It's really close to Kampung Daun, Bandung. When you walked out of Kampung Daun, you will see it immediately after another cafe (second cafe on the right). When you walked in, there should be a cupboard that sells clothes and snacks. To the right is 2 tables and a house. If you go around back, is the guest house where you can pay to stay the night.

They also provide room for stay over. It's a really nice place to stay the night, since it's located at Lembang area, so you can feel the breezy weather. And, eating the "Java noodle" while it's still hot, makes it perfect.

I always asked for crushed chili though to add spiciness into the noodle. The noodle itself is a lil chewy, perfect to my liking, and the sweetness is just right.

Other than this, my friend also like their "bakmoy rice (nasi bakmoy)" and "fried rice". Oh, I also ordered fried banana for dessert, I forgot to take a pic, tho. The banana is nice and tangy. The texture is crispy outside and really soft inside. It's sprinkled with powder sugar. Yummy =)

Burger King @Illigals, Hayam Wuruk

For lunch, I went to Illigals, Hayam Wuruk and chose Burger King over Dominos because only 2 of us eating. I just don't think it's fair to my stomach to eat half a pizza =P. By the way, this is the first time I eat Burger King! Back when I still in USA, I always want to try the croissant bun, but always ended up going to McD hahaha.

This time I ordered the fish burger. It took quite a long time for them to cook it for me (it's supposed to be fast food, hmff!!!). The fish came out crunchy, though, so I'm not complaining. But, it's kind of oily, if compared to McD.

I like the taste but since I'm not a crazy fan of a burger dish, I don't think it goes to my must have food.

Chatterbox @Seibu GI

I went to Chatterbox with my mom because she hasn't been there in a long time. We used to like the food at Chatterbox a lot, especially the char kway teow.

That day, for appetizer I ordered fried calamari. The fried calamari is decent. The crispiness is really good but the taste has nothing special on it. One of the nicest crispy calamari =)

The char kway teow is a bust! It's so different from the old days. The taste is kind of weird, I just can't describe it. The beef is really tender, though. So, not a recommendation from me, but if you still wanna try it, the beef can be a positive side of the dish

My mom ordered the chicken and mushroom noodle. I didn't try the noodle, but the wonton that came with it is alright. The meat is full and has its chewiness I like. But, my mom finished her food, so it's probably good. =)

Pancious @TA

I went to Pancious @ Taman Anggrek Mall for lunch a week ago. I always took a loooooong time to pick something from a menu, especially if they have pictures. Because as you know, all of the pictures looks so yummie! So, I just drooled over them for a loooonnnnggg time (slurp~).

So, after a drooling moment, I decided to choose "full breakfast - single pancake". It consists of a single pancake, sausage, ham topped with grilled pineapple and omelet. Since it's called full breakfast, I actually wants it to be more of varieties haha but I'll take what I get =)

First, I spread the butter all over the pancake and then I left them and moving on to the sausage first. I cut them into small bites and tasted them. Really nice. The taste is a lil salty and it's really moist. Then I took a bite of the omelet, yummy! I think they used milk in it so it's kind of soaky good =P. The ham is alright, but I don't like the pineapple. I like my fruits cold hehe. After all that are finished, I came back to my pancake.

I ordered pancake instead of waffle (you can choose waffle or pancake, and if you double it you can mix 1 pancake 1 waffle by the way) because I think their pancake is better in taste and texture. I pour a lil of maple syrup and start eating the fluffy pancake. So, I got the saltiness and the dessert in one plate, YUMMY!

99 Ranch Market @GI

I went to 99 Ranch Market @ GI last Sunday with my friends. I was gonna order a steak, but then my friend said their sandwiches are great. So, I ordered one of the sandwich instead. It's called "madame croque". It's basically a pork ham in a toast, covered with melty cheese then topped with egg. It looks so good! (I think the egg has the most factoring in the yummie looks haha). I ordered mine before 4 of my friends arrive, and 2 guys immediately interested in my dish and ordered this dish also =)

Like I said it was too big for me, so I end up eating 3/4 of it and my friend finished the leftover since she doesn't really like her mac n cheese haha. It's a good sandwich and would be a nice choice if you happened to be at this restaurant, but it's not a must have dish also. They have the beef ham version without egg called "monsieur croque" btw if you prefer that.

What I like more than the sandwich is the side dish I ordered. It's "broccoli garlic". Yummy! The brocolli still has its crunchiness but not hard to bite and the taste is really nice. One of my friend also ordered this side dish after she tasted mine =)

Mr Park @GI

I tried the Korean stall at Food Louver Grand Indonesia. It's called Mr. Park.

The set meal is not expensive for the portion they served. The taste is not so authentic though. It's already turned to Indonesian style more than Korean style. Although, if you want a decent food for a decent price, you could try Mr. Park.

Keripik Setan from Bandung

My cousin went to Bandung couple weeks ago with her hubby. They went to a bazaar and saw this kripik setan (translate to devil chips, i guess). They bought it and immediately lovin it! It's really spicy and has saltiness in it, too.

They sell 2 versions : spicy and extra spicy. I never tried the spicy one, but I love the extra spicy. Everytime I start to open it, I thought to myself "just a lil bit", but I end up eating so many that I start sweating because of the spiciness. It's really crazy, but also very good hahaha.

If you love crunchy and spicy, this is the one for you =)

Toranomon @ GI

I want to order the set menu, but they have something like tongue that I don't like and when I asked if I can switch with other meat, they said cannot =( so I ordered ala carte for the meats and I also ordered intestine =P.

The meat I ordered one not marinated yet, the other has. They are both equal in texture, really good! But of course the one marinated has more flavor infused in them. I also like the intestine =)

For the soup, I tried the beef with turnip soup. The turnip is really soft but not crushed. So, you can bite into it easily. The taste is kind of bland but I don't think this kind of soup fit with strong taste anyway. So overall, I like this soup =). The beef meat is also very tender and nice. If you bring your parents to this restaurant and they're into this kind of food, you should order this soup =)

A lil warning tho, this restaurant is not cheap =)

Katsura Japanese resto @PS

The best Japanese resto in Jakarta for me is this one: Katsura at Plaza Senayan. But, of course it will cost you to eat good stuff. =)

The chawan mushi is really nice. Has a lot of fillings inside, shrimp, chicken, mushroom, etc. The texture is really soft and the taste is really nice =)

I ordered the set menu. It consists of shrimp tempura, grilled beef, miso soup, rice and lots of appetizers in small bowls (you can see the appetizers in more close up on the next pics). The grilled beef is really yummy, taste really nice. It's also accompanied with grilled mushroom that has the same seasoning. The shrimp tempura also really crunchy but moist inside.

I'm not really sure whats inside each bowls, but I know they are all good. Some of them I know is tamago, small unagi sushi (so cute), fish, cold mushroom, chicken, sliced octopus, and other are veggies i think.

And, last, I ordered dessert. Green tea roll cake with red beans & strawberry and vanilla ice cream. Yummy! The roll cake is really good in texture and not too sweet. I can really taste the green tea. Nyam...!
