Yum Yum

Food is basic needs of our life and let's just say I'm a needy one on this category. I love good food! In this blog, I'd post pic of foods I dine in restaurants and tell what I think about them. I might also cook/bake sometime =)

3rd generation laksa @Ion orchard, Singapore

On my last day, I went to Orchard to eat this laksa at the food court. The ingredients are noodle, egg, shrimp, tofu skin and cockle. The soup is creamy and rich and all the ingredients mix really well, but I would love it if it's spicier than this haha.

But overall, it's good. The shrimp is fresh and crunchy, the soup is fragrance and the tofu skin is really rich in taste because it's soaked in the soup all day.

"soto tangkar" @Mangga besar area, Jakarta

I craved for "soto tangkar" today, and my mom went to hospital at Mangga Besar area today. So, I asked her to buy me one because my father said there's one stall there that sells good soto tangkar.

Let's just say after eating this "soto tangkar", my craving has been satisfied! It's really good. The soup is rich in flavor and the meat is really moist and soft. The chili and pickle is also great addition =)

Me and my stomach are so happy =D

ang ku kueh from Singapore

On my last day at Singapore, I went to Outram Park area, close to Chinatown to buy this ang ku kueh for my parent. They love this ang ku kueh a lot! Especially the durian and yam flavor. Too bad when I went there, they don't have the durian flavor that day, they have cempedak flavor though, so I bought them instead.

The cempedak is really fragrant but I like the yam better. The texture of this ang ku kueh is really soft and not sticky at all. Even after you put it on the fridge and reheat it, it's still soft and not sticky. This is the best ang ku kueh that I know of, so far at least =P.

"dum briyani" @Little India, Singapore

I went to Little India, Singapore for the first time. So, I was kind of confused when I got to find this food court at Tekka market. Because when I got inside, it's all wet market selling meat and fish. I really hated the smell lol. I walked as fast as I can, then I spotted tables like when in food court. So, I went to that table, and yeppp there they are, the food centre at Tekka market, Little India area.

I went around for a bit and decided to order this dum briyani from one of the stall there. The portion is kind of big. The chicken is really huge, too. I love the taste of the rice, it has lots of spices infused in it so it's really fragrance.

food at Universal studio Singapore

It was so hot when I went to the Universal Studio @Singapore couple days ago. So, I went and bought the Princess Fiona ice cream cone from one of the stall. The ice cream cone is so cute =P. But the taste of the ice cream (this one is mix of vanilla and chocolate) was average.

For the meal, I ate at Mel's Diner and use my S$5 voucher here to order the chili cheese dog. It's a hot dog topped with onions, melted cheese and meaty chili. It's alright, the taste is average. I like the onion fragrance but the hot dog has nothing special into it.

Subway Melt @Singapore changi airport

I was waiting at the internet lounge of Singapore Changi airport, it's close to some food stall. I was craving for Subway for some time. So, I decided to order it 1 hour before my plane arrived so I won't be hungry at the airplane.

I ordered Subway Melt with ham, bacon and cheese inside the bread, with chipotle and mayo sauce and onions in it. Toast it for awhile and voila! My Subway Melt is ready for my stomach =D.

It's really good! It's been so long since I last ate Subway =) Love it!

Bugis area @ Singapore

I went to Bugis area at Singapore and went to the food centre just across the Bugis street market. We decided to order from two different stalls. One is the wonton noodle and the other is nasi lemak.

The wonton noodle has a nice texture of noodle, not too soft, has a bit of crunchiness into it. The wonton is alright, not that great in my opinion, it doesn't have the crunchiness I expected from it. The pork is not that good either, it's kind of dry. The queue to this food stall is quite long, though.

The nasi lemak is green because they cooked it with pandan. It's really fragrant but the meat is so-so. It's a regular sausage and the fish cake is alright. The chili is quite spicy, though =)

"kaya french toast" @Killiney kopitiam Singapore

On my second day at Singapore, I went to Killiney Kopitiam near the apartment I stayed at. I ordered the kaya french toast and kopi-o-kosong.

The french toast is not hard to bite, it's crunchy on the outside but really moist inside. The kaya and butter filling is really good, not too sweet for my taste. And, the combination of the kopi-o-kosong (means coffee without milk and sugar) is really great with the toast.

Love, love, love it!

"oyster pancake" @singapore

I decided to eat at the street of chinatown @Singapore the first day I got there. I spotted there's a stall selling oyster pancake and carrot cake. I was kind of confused which one to choose but I end up with the oyster =)

The oyster is fresh and really moist. The egg is not that crunchy like I want it to be. The sauce is really good for this food though.

uncle ice cream @singapore

I hadn't ate anythin all day that day, when I spotted uncle ice cream at Chinatown area at Singapore. I bought the durian flavor with bread. When I bite into it, it taste like heaven on earth! All my feeling of thirsty and hungry and tired was brought to the low point again =).

The bread is multi colored with green and pink. The bread is really soft and moist. The ice cream has a great durian flavor into it and not hard to bite although it's really thick =). I love it!

I also like the mocha choco chip flavor, but I don't really like the mint choco chip one.

For S$1, it's worth it!

Pizza Marzano @Grand Indonesia West Mall, Jakarta

I never ate at this restaurant before, but I really love their pizza! I tried the English Breakfast pizza, it has egg in the middle and then ham, bacon, mushroom and melted cheese of course =).

The taste is really good and it's kind of crispy because the pizza is thin. I would definitely go back to this restaurant to try the other menu! The pasta looks really good, too, and the portion is huge! Slurp...

"bakso Aciap" @Greenville area

For now, this is my favorite meatballs. But I have to warn you that it's kind of salty so if you got high blood pressure it might not be your best choice =).

The meatballs are crunchy and tasty. The tendon is really tender and moist. The tofu is not bad but I prefer the meatballs and tendon over it hehe. Their chili sauce is really spicy too =) And, they also give fried garlic on the side so I usually add it to get more fragrance into it.

"swekiau" and "noodle" around Ricci school @Jalan Kemenangan

This is 2 different stalls. But, it's close to each other, so I usually bought this noodle from -Doyok- restaurant and the "swekiau" from -Ahin- stall.

I love this noodle a lot, I always ordered the big noodle with pork meat. If your stomach is sensitive, I warned you not to eat the chili sauce here, because even I always got stomach ache after eating it. But, because I love the spiciness, I always eat it anyway hahaha.

The swekiau at Ahin stall is the best known to me. The skin is still kind of firm so it's not too soft and the filling is really full of meat and crunchy. You just got to try it to know what I meant =)

-Chicken Story- @Citraland Mall, Jakarta

I was going to the Popeyes at Citraland mall when my mom passed this restaurant and want to try it. So, we went in and I ordered "ribs soup with green chili pepper" and "kangkung with chili".

The ribs soup is alright, it has ribs of course and tomato, potato and some herbs. It smells really good, but when I taste it, it's kind of bland so I don't really like it.

The kangkung though! It's really good! The taste is kind of salty and really spicy. I really love it that i ate it all (including the chili, all gone!)

I think the ribs with chili will be better than the soup. I probably gonna try that one next time I'm at CL.

"cheesecake" ala mommy =P

I love this cheesecake a lot! It's my mom's recipe and I usually baked it myself back at USA because it's not that hard to make and really taste good! It's like chiffon cake but has cheesy taste. On top of it, we poured lots of shredded cheese too to make a crunchy texture into it =) The sweetness is just right, the texture is soft and moist but lil crunchy on the top, the fragrance is sooo gooooddddddd =D

<3 it !

Kuotie/Gyoza @Gunung sahari area

If you like "kuotie" or "gyoza" some might say, and want the best one without any regards to the price tag, this is the one! This restaurant sells the best but also the most expensive "kuotie" known to me =). It's located at Gunung Sahari area.

I usually add all of the sauces at the table into one small cup to make a really great mixture taste. It's just different if you left any of them out. I dipped the kuotie into the sauce (lots and lots of sauce!!) and biteeee =D The filling is full of meat unlike other stall that usually filled with more veggies rather than the meat. It's also moist and the taste is just great!

"Fermented cassava"

This is what we called "fermented cassava". My mom intrigued by the mini size of them because usually it's sold twice bigger than this size so she want to try it. It's sold @ Bogor Permai bread shop.

The taste is like other fermented cassava, has that liquor taste into it. But, this one really is soft and has very little cassava fiber into it.

The next day my mom bake it in the oven and put shredded cheese and choco on top of it. Love it!!! You can be creative with this food, you can eat it just like that, or bake it first, or make it into a cake, etc. =)

-Dunia Baru- Chinese restaurant @Bogor

After all that dessert, I went to this Chinese restaurant named -Dunia Baru- at Jalan Siliwangi, Bogor. We ordered "haisom kaki babi / sea cucumber with pork leg", "usus babi goreng / deep fried pork intestines" and "lapis udang ham / shrimp covered in ham".

The sea cucumber with pork leg is average in my opinion. Well, for the price, the ingredients are abundance though. The sea cucumber is kind of crunchy in texture but not hard to chew. The taste is kind of sweet from the sauce.

The deep fried pork intestines is really good! The intestines are deep fried to perfection so that it's really crunchy but not hard to bite. It can be a snack too if you prefer it that way =)

The shrimp covered in ham is alright. I can't really taste the shrimp because it's already mashed and then made into thin layered. The texture is crunchy but soft in the inside.

sagurangi and col enak dessert @ Bogor

I went to Bogor again last Friday. I stopped by that "ronde" stall at Jalan Suryakencana again and bought this "sagurangi" dessert. It's made out of yam chunks, palm sugar, sago, and coconut milk.

The yam chunks is not too chewy but not too soft either, so it's really good in texture. The sweetness from palm sugar is not too much which is good =). The sago is kind of lumpy, which is supposed to be in this dessert. The coconut milk is fragrance and rich in flavor. So, mix them together and you get a great dessert named "sagurangi".

I even bought one home and eat it the next day, it's still so good! You just got to put the coconut milk in a bowl and don't cover it with anything. It will stay good for a day =)

Not too far from this ronde stall (turn left at Jalan Roda), there's a small stall selling "col enak" dessert. This dessert made out of fermented cassava and banana topped with young coconut meat and palm sugar then poured with coconut milk.

The banana and fermented cassava has already been grilled so it's really fragrant. The sweetness even though looks like too sweet with all that palm sugar, it's not. It's just right! The young coconut meat and fermented cassava is soft in texture while the banana is kind of chewy to balance it. Love it!

-Medan Baru- Padang restaurant @Krekot area, Jakarta

I went to "Medan Baru" Padang restaurant couple days ago. It's located in Krekot area.

This is the second time I've been to this restaurant. The first time I want to try something special in this restaurant, but they didn't have it anymore that day. So, I went again and finally I got to try the "marijuana chili sauce". Yep, it's said that the chili sauce contains marijuana in it. The taste is kind of sour like young mango, nothing spicy about it at all, doesn't taste weird or anything, and no side effect after that, too. Awww... Well, at least I tried =P

They have 4 varieties of chicken (at least that I know of!), they got rendang, gulai, deep-fried and grilled.

OK, this is weird. The first time I came to this restaurant all the chicken is really good. But, today, the grilled one is cold like it came out of the refrigerator and the gulai kind of bland in taste.

The restaurant was having a blackout that day. Every couple mins the electricity went down so there's no light for some time and we have to stop eating because it's pitch black inside haha.

Really dissapointed!

If you decide to try them, they are famous for their "fish head" dish other than the chicken and that "sambel ganja/marijuana chili sauce".

-Nata- "roll cake"

My mom bought 2 roll cakes from Nata. First one is chocolate roll cake and the second one is mocha roll cake. Personally, I like the mocha roll cake better.

The cake is soft and moist. The sweetness is just right for me =) The flavor is rich enough to taste the mocha or the chocolate. It's good to satisfy your sweet tooth craving if you're around the stall.

Nata shop usually is located in the FoodHall supermarket area in malls.

trying "chicken pi-than congee" at Imperial Jade Sichuan, Plaza Indonesia mall, Jakarta

I went to Imperial Jade Sichuan again to try out their congee =). So, I ordered the "chicken pi-than congee", it came with little cubes of chicken breast meat, pi-than or you might call it a century egg tidbits, and crispy wonton skin. I ordered "jellyfish" for my side dish, too.

The congee is nothing special by itself. But, since I loved their "jellyfish", eating them with the congee is heaven on earth hehe =)

dimsum at -Imperial Jade Sichuan- @Plaza Indonesia mall, Jakarta

I went to -Imperial Jade Sichuan- again yesterday to try on their dim sum. I ordered 8 dim sum varieties (I actually want some more but my stomach probably won't tolerate it haha)

The first one to came is this "fried seafood roll / lumpia seafood goreng". This one tasted kinda weird for me, because the ingredients I think includes fruit other than seafood. So, it's sweet and sour for the filling. But, still tolerable to eat I guess.

Then, the "egg tart". I always ordered one of this out of dim sum menu because this is my favorite dim sum sweets =). This one is heavenly! The skin is soft and crunchy but doesn't crumble easily. The filling is really soft and taste just right! Love itttt!

This might be the best "shrimp dumpling / hakau" in Jakarta. The shrimp is huge and crunchy in texture, the skin is thin so it's easy to chew off.

The "fried turnip cake" is alright. It's fragrant but doesn't really have the crunchiness I wanted out of a turnip cake =). But, it's still good to try. They have the steamed version to this turnip cake if you prefer less oily =)

"Fried shrimp dumpling"! Yummie! Hehe, they added some greens that add fragrance into this dumpling, and like the hakau, the shrimp they use is huge and crunchy. So it's really juicy in the inside but crunchy on the outside. Perfect =). It's too bad the mayonnaise sauce is not that good.

This one is "fried shrimp in tofu skin". I noticed that when you ordered the fried dimsum here, you have to prepare to roll them on tissue first, because it's really oily. This one has that huge shrimp filling and fragrant greens inside the tofu skin. I prefer the dumpling version, though =)

This "siew mai" is great! This one used chicken meat though, not pork (I bet if they make the pork version, it's even greater in taste hahaha). It's crunchy in texture and really juicy. Really good!

My mom ordered this one because in the picture she saw that they served it like swan figure. When it came out like the usual "fried taro dumpling", she's kind of dissapointed hahaha. She said, "apparently, the swan's head already cut off before serving" hahaha. But this "fried taro dumpling" is really good =). The outside is real crispy and the taro is thin so there's lots of room for the filling =).

Overall, I'm really satisfied with the dim sum and this probably is one of my favorite dim sum place from now on.

"putu bambu" @Pluit area, Jakarta

I was looking for a late night snack couple days ago, but because of Lebaran holiday, most of them still closed. But, when I passed the Pluit area, I noticed the stall that sells "putu bambu" is open =). So, I decided to buy some.

Putu bambu is made from rice flour and it's filled with palm sugar then steamed. It's served with shredded coconut. This stall sells a great "putu bambu", it's really fragrance, the sweetness is just right and not petty on the filling and topping =P

Other than "putu bambu", this stall also sell great "lopis (green and black versions available), putu mayang and klepon". I would review them some other time =)

"oxtail soup/sup buntut and dessert" Bogor Cafe @Pacific Place Mall, Jakarta

I went to Pacific Place mall couple days ago to eat this "Soup Buntut or Oxtail Soup" at Bogor Cafe (branch from Borobudur Hotel. This mall is actually quite far from my place compared to the hotel itself. But, the price for this dish is cheaper at this mall hehe. Also in this mall you got a choice of small, medium or legendary size, while in the hotel you only got 1 choice. The taste is the same, though =)

This "oxtail soup" from Bogor Cafe is the best I had so far. The soup is really refreshing and the meat is really soft. The dish include rice and chips we called "emping" (it's made from belinjo). I usually dip the chips into the soup just before I bite it, so I still have a lil bit of crunch from it and the refreshing taste from the soup.

If you like "oxtail soup" and haven't try this one, you have to!

For the dessert, I try this "grilled banana with coconut ice cream". The banana is grilled then drizzled with liquid palm sugar. The banana's texture is not too soft, it still has a bit of crunchiness into it which I think is good, and it's not too sweet so the palm sugar complement it real good! The best part of this dessert for me is the ice cream though. The coconut ice cream is not soft in texture, it's crunchy but rich in coconut taste. Love it!
